In this volume,  photographer Frank Herfort presents the subway systems of the Soviet era. His photographs combine to form a holistic and comprehensive representation of socialist subway architecture. Over a period of more than 5 years he visited more than 770 metro stations on all 19 Soviet subway networks.

With texts by Ksenia Smirnova, specialist in monumental Soviet art and architecture, deputy director of the Schusev State Museum of Architecture, Moscow and photographer Frank Herfort.
